Automated Bagging Machine is not for Landscaping and Garden products?

Posted by Aaron Chen on

Products most often bagged are different from products being packaged. The machinery used to package product is different from bagging machinery in that they are semi automatic or fully automatic and usually needed for high volume production. Packaged products include:

•  Food service items — cups, lids, knives, forks, and spoons
•  Do-it-yourself items — paint rollers, wallpaper rolls, widow shades, and curtain rods
•  Toys — footballs
•  Kit packaging — auto parts, nuts and bolts, puzzle pieces, tie wraps
•  Bulk packaging — bottle caps
•  Products that are not easy to handle on a flat surface — tennis, golf, and soccer balls
•  Mixed products — books and CDs, shoes and shirts
•  Irregularly shaped products — surfboards

Similar to packaging machines, there are two types of Bagging Machine in the market: semi automated bagger and fully automatic bagging equipment. So is a "automatic bagging machine" suitable for landscaping and garden materials/products?

Usually bagging equipment can be used to bag landscape materials, garden products and agricultural products such as aggregate, stone, minerals, grain, feed, seed, cement, concrete, sand, damp sand, sanded cement mixes, aggregate, soil, dirt, mulch, saw dust and compost. They are also used for other materials and products such as chemicals and food such as flour, corn, soybeans, powder, animal feeds, cake mixes, cottonseed hulls, plastic pellets and many more.

What type of bagging machine to use, depends on your business type and your bagging demand. If you need to bag over 1 million bags a year, it could be more cost effective to purchase an automatic bagging machine to increase productivity and efficiency. However, if the bagging demand is between 10,000 – 800,000 bags a year, a semi-automatic bagging machine is a better choice than a fully automatic machine and all the associated supporting infrastructure. The cost of the fully automatic bagging equipment (starts at $200,000) however the usage of the machine can be 24/7 throughout the year.

In the landscaping and gardening industry, the demand for bagging is not as large as the other industries. Example: Bagging rice in the food industry, the bagged rice is supplied to the general public in very high volume via supermarkets such as Woolworths, Coles and ALDI and the volume is very high, and the bagging process is generally known as packaging.

Therefore, the bagged/packaged food product suppliers need to automatic bagging machinery to facilitate mass production. However, when it comes to nursery, gardening and landscaping industries, the need for bagging is high due to the general publics demand for easy to hand/lift goods in small volumes rather than trailer or truck loads. Landscapers also have a similar requirement for ease of handling. Obviously the volume required is not as big as in the food industries, people purchase more food than gardening & landscaping products in their daily life.

In conclusion, rather than a fully automatic bagging or packaging machine, a semi-automatic bagging machine is enough for the users in landscape, nursery and gardening industries. Usually, a semi-automatic bagger can bag can fill  20-25kg bag in 6 to 8 seconds, which is around 500 bags in an hour. [Click here for detail......]
